BIO

Brian earned his B.A. in Economics from the University of Waterloo in 1975, and Chartered Accountant designation in 1981. He was elected a Fellow (FCA) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (ICAO) by the ICAO Council, and became a FCPA, FCA upon unification of the Canadian Accounting Profession under the CPA designation in 2014. Before joining the University of Toronto, Brian held various positions at ICAO (subsequently, CPA Ontario) for 32 years, including Director of Education, before becoming VP of Learning in 2000 until his retirement in October 2016. There were over 20,000 students in the unified CPA Student Body. He was also a co-acting CEO of the ICAO during 2009.

As VP of Learning, Brian was a valued member of the senior management team during the unification of the Canadian Accounting Profession. He was instrumental in the creation of the National CPA-Accreditation Program for post-secondary institutions and responsible for its implementation in Ontario. He was also a valued member of the CPA Canada interprovincial committee responsible for the development of the new CPA Certification Program, including the Common Final Examination, as well as the oversight of its implementation in Ontario.

Brian was on the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Ontario for six years, serving as President from 2002-2005. He was also a discussant for two research publications: one in the Journal of Information Systems; and the other in the International Journal of Information Systems.

 

TEACHING INTERESTS

Brian Leader has successfully taught Work Term Project I (MGT1090) and Work Term Project II (MGT2090) in the MMPA Program since 2017
