MMPA Golf Day – A Great Networking Opportunity

Golf has become an important part of doing business because it offers an opportunity to network and to get to know the people you are playing with.  That is why, on July 12th, 2013 the Master of Management & Professional Accounting Program (MMPA) hosted its 13th annual golf event at Lionhead Golf & Country Club. MMPA students play golf with professional accountants from employers and have an opportunity to make a good impression and to learn about the employer.

Some students have never held a golf club in their hands, so the event also provides the perfect opportunity to learn the game of golf in a supportive setting.  Eddie Gao, a student in MMPA 2015, expressed his thoughts: “for me, and some other classmates, it was our first time playing golf. Regardless if I had a nice shot or a bad one, I received praise and encouragement from my team members”.  Elise Liu, also from MMPA 2015, commented: “it was a beautiful afternoon; I had a really great time! I enjoyed talking with the firm representatives and spending time outside the classroom with the other MMPA students”.

The firm representatives also expressed how much they enjoy the MMPA golf day every year and look forward to attending.  Representatives are able to meet the new MMPA students and observe how they approach situations, judge their integrity, and form a relationship that may not otherwise be possible.

The day ended with dinner and the presentation of the trophy given out to the team with the lowest score. This year’s winners were: firm representative and MMPA alumni, Mark Kubisheski from Ernst & Young, and MMPA students Sally Ni, Julie Yu and Lucas Nicodemou.

MMPA golf day is an event that students, faculty and representatives look forward to each year, Amy Zhan, class of 2015, expressed her gratitude: “I really appreciate the opportunity to be a part of the MMPA golf day, it will be an experience I will always remember”.

This year there were 198 golfers, including 61 employer representatives and 19 alumni, as well as students, staff and professors.
