2025/2026 Admission Intake Update

MMPA program updates

Updated: August 20, 2025

Earlier this year, the University of Toronto shared that it was pausing admissions to the Master of Management & Professional Accounting (MMPA) program for 2025.

We have been working through a redesign of the program that ensures we are keeping pace with the evolving accounting and business profession and building on the program’s strengths over the past 35 years.

We are almost there with a complete plan, but we need more time to allow the proposed changes to go through the university’s governance and approval process. As a result, admissions for 2026 will also be paused.

Please be assured we’re strongly committed to maintaining our role as leaders in accounting education and delivering a renowned program that prepares students for success in a profession that is undergoing economic, technological and societal shifts – much like other professions.

As we continue to work through the details, please contact mmpa@utoronto.ca or visit the MMPA website to learn more.

Frequently asked Questions

  1. How do these changes impact current students?

Students currently enrolled will be able to complete their studies and graduate from the program with advanced standing in the CPA professional education program.

  2.  How do these changes impact prospective students?

Prospective students who have already submitted their application have received a refund for their application fees while UTM pauses admissions to the MMPA program for 2025 and 2026. Prospective students are encouraged to stay connected for news in the coming year about the updated program.

  3. What changes will happen to the program?

The MMPA program is being redesigned to keep pace with the evolving accounting profession while building on its strengths over the past 35 years.

The redesigned program will accomplish the following:

    • Streamline the curriculum to support a more balanced academic journey
    • Refocus content to reinforce core foundations in accounting
    • Explore expanded learning opportunities to prepare graduates to add value in emerging areas
    • Enhance the student learning experience by examining more individual student support, opportunities for increased experiential learning opportunities (such as paid co-op terms), professional employment preparedness and incorporating technologies such as generative artificial intelligence

Currently there are three options to participate in the MMPA program – a 27-month option, a 24-month advanced-standing option and a 12-month advanced-standing option. The 27-month and 24-month pathways are for students with no previous background in accounting and business while the 12-month option is for students who have studied accounting in their undergraduate degree.

As part of the program’s redesign, the MMPA is proposing a 24-month option and a 12-month option. This will result in better course integration and allow for a more focused approach to enhance student success.

Our proposed plan is anticipated to go through the University governance by Fall 2026.
