Blake Langill, Class of 1996
“The program gave me real-life skills in a diverse and fast-paced team environment, and involved a volume of work that prepared me well for my career. Looking back, I would say it was a great foundation for my career and helped me develop many skills that are applicable to life in general.”
Blake Langill, a Partner with Ernst & Young LLP’s Assurance and Advisory Business Services practice in Toronto, has spent most of his career working with clients in the mining and manufacturing industries.
With two economics degrees from the University of Western Ontario, an honours bachelor of arts and a master of arts, Blake started his accounting career as a co-op student with Ernst & Young in 1995 while enrolled in the University of Toronto’s MBA in Professional Accounting (now MMPA) program.
After graduating from the MMPA program on the Dean’s Honour List and earning the W. Barry Coutts Memorial Prize for academic excellence and contributions both inside and outside of the classroom, Blake earned his CA designation in 1998. Since then, he has been acknowledged as an effective coach, motivator, and multi-office team leader who has an ability to easily communicate complex concepts. He is highly regarded for his understanding ofIPOs and income-trust offerings and his knowledge of complex accounting areas such as derivative instruments, hedging activities, and variable-interest entities.
Blake strongly believes in the quality of the MMPA experience and actively leads Ernst & Young’s recruiting efforts from this program. “The program gave me real-life skills in a diverse and fast-paced team environment, and involved a volume of work that prepared me well for my career. Looking back, I would say it was a great foundation for my career and helped me develop many skills that are applicable to life in general,” says Blake.
Ernst & Young shares Blake’s positive view, as demonstrated by their strong track record of supporting the MMPA program and its students.
Blake enjoys spending his time outside of the office with his family and close friends.
