MMPA CPA Accreditation Announcement
We are pleased to announce that the Master of Management & Professional Accounting (MMPA) Program of the Institute for Management & Innovation (IMI) has been accredited by the CPA Ontario Council under the new National CPA Accreditation Program so that our graduates will receive advanced standing and be exempt from most of the 2 year CPA Professional Education Program (CPA PEP). MMPA graduates will move straight into the final module (Capstone 2) of the CPA PEP and then on to the CPA Common Final Exam (CFE).
The MMPA programs accredited are as follows:
- Both the 24 month and 27 month MMPA programs; and
- The 12 month MMPA program* for students from the B.Com, Accounting Specialist Program from University of Toronto, Mississauga, and from substantially equivalent programs at U of T St. George and Scarborough.
* The 12 month MMPA program is currently going through the last stages of the University Governance process with the expectation that students will be admitted and begin classes in September 2015.
Accreditation is based on the overall educational experience (i.e. knowledge, skills, and professionalism) provided to CPA students. In regard to the 12-month MMPA Program, the CPA Ontario Council has agreed to accredit the educational experience for students drawn from the following U of T programs: UTM’s B. Com, Accounting Specialist; Rotman’s B. Com, Accounting Specialist; and UTSC’s Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Specialist in Management and Accounting.
Students from the existing MMPA 2015 and MMPA 2016 classes will graduate from the CPA accredited program.
Thanks are due to all faculty and staff members from all three campuses who worked very hard on the accreditation documents and process. This accreditation will allow us to continue to attract great undergraduate and graduate students, and faculty to the University of Toronto. It also positions the University of Toronto as a leading school in professional accounting education.
