MMPA Graduate Makes National Honour Roll for Chartered Professional Accountants

Kylyn Athey

The Master of Management & Professional Accounting (MMPA) program is pleased to announce that MMPA 2013 graduate and Chartered Professional Accounting Student, Kylyn Athey has placed on the Honour Roll on this year’s Canada-wide CA/CPA Uniform Evaluation (UFE).

According to Ms. Athey: “Writing the UFE was probably the most stressful three days of my life. But, in retrospect, it was both challenging and rewarding. It showed me what I was capable of and I learned so much about myself and, of course, accounting."

In order to obtain a professional accounting designation successful completion of the required program is mandatory. The UFE is an integral part of this process along with prescribed education and practical experience. Ms. Athey joined the MMPA program in 2011, where she was able to obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to work towards her CPA designation. Once her 30-month experience requirement has been fulfilled Ms. Athey will have the honour of adding CPA, CA to her name.

Kylyn is a proud graduate of the MMPA program.  She offers the following comments on her decision to join the program and how it has helped her achieve her goals:

“I joined the MMPA program after completing a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Guelph.  While completing my undergrad I completed 4 co-op terms that helped me realize I wanted to pursue the CA designation.  After speaking with many CAs in the industry and MMPA students I decided the MMPA program was the quickest and easiest way to pursue my designation and also gain professional experience.  The MMPA program was highly recommended to me by many CAs.  The MMPA program allowed me to work towards my Chartered Accountant (CA) designation while obtaining a master’s degree.  It’s a small program which results in close friendships and the ability to learn from students with many different educational backgrounds.  There are a lot of opportunities to get involved in extracurricular activities on campus or with the MMPA student council.   In addition, the program has a co-op component, which allowed me to secure a position after graduating.  I am now working full time at the PwC LLP Oakville office in the Audit and Assurance Group and have successfully completed the professional exams.”

We congratulate Kylyn and wish her continued success in her future endeavours!
