FAQ's

Question

I am an international student with a student visa, but no work permit to work in Canada. Would this make me ineligible for the co-op work term?

Answer

No, the work term is a requirement of the Program and therefore international students are able to apply for a work visa for the work terms. The Program requirements for the work term are fairly broad. This means that you can work with any type of organization and the work term can be completed anywhere in the world, not just in Canada.

Question

Is the Program responsible for finding my co-op placement?

Answer

No, however, the Program arranges a wide variety of networking events to support student placement.  These events provide students and recruiters, including Program alumni, the opportunity to meet and become familiar with each other in a variety of venues, including our Golf Day, Career Day and the Distinguished Speaker Series, as well as a number of firm-sponsored recruiting events.  In addition, our Program includes courses and workshops that improve students' presentation and communication skills (MSD Team Building and MSD Communications) and we have a dedicated Placement Team that works with our students and firm representatives.

Question

Could I choose at least one work term in the consulting field?

Answer

Students may work in many different business environments during the co-op work term. We review each position and determine if it meets the criteria of the work term. A consulting position would more than likely meet our requirements.

Question

Where does the largest proportion of graduates end up working?  The Big 4?  How big a role do grades play in this?

Answer

The largest proportion of MMPA graduates work at Public Accounting firms upon graduation.  There are several factors that determine where graduates end up working, including their language skills, their career goals, their performance during the co-op work terms and their grades.  Many of our students work in small and mid-sized public accounting firms as well as the larger firms.

Question

Are work-term positions offered in other cities in Ontario, like Ottawa, or are they all offered in Toronto only?

Answer

Our Program will assist students to locate co-op employment across Canada and Internationally.

Question

What are the starting salary levels for recent MMPA graduates?

Answer

Based on our most recent graduating class, the average starting salary is in the low to mid $50,000 range. The majority of our students obtain full-time employment with Public Accounting firms.
