Applicants admitted into the Master of Management & Professional Accounting program must have taken a Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) within the past 5 years.

Minimum scores required:

  • Total Score: 570
  • Verbal: 46%
  • Quantitative: 46%
  • AWA: 4.0

We will not be setting a minimum score for the new Integrated Reasoning section until we have sufficient experience to ensure the minimum is appropriate for our program.

The GMAT requirement will be waived for any applicant graduating from the University of Toronto (UofT):

  1. With high distinction (i.e. cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher), or
  2. From one of the University of Toronto Mississauga’s BCom (Accounting Specialist Program); the Rotman School’s BCom (Accounting Specialist Program); or the University of Toronto Scarborough’s BBA (Specialist in Management & Accounting Program).

The GMAT is offered as the Computer-Adaptive Test. Further information is available and tests can be schedule at the Official GMAT website.

What is the GMAT?

Answer

The GMAT is the Graduate Management Admissions Test.  It is administered by the Educational Testing Service, Princeton, New Jersey, USA.  It is designed to test how well a person will perform in the first year of a graduate business program.  Please refer to the GMAT web site for more detailed information.

Are there any circumstances under which I can be exempted from the GMAT requirement for your Program?

No.  All applicants must fulfill the GMAT requirements for our Program as detailed on our Admissions standards page in order to be considered for admission.

I already hold a Master's degree for which the GMAT test was required (e.g. MBA)  Do I still need to fulfill your Program's GMAT requirement?

Yes, you must fulfill our Program's GMAT requirement as outlined on our Admissions page.

Is it possible to write the GRE instead of the GMAT?

Answer

No, the GMAT is designed specifically to test how well a person will perform in the first year of a graduate business program.  There is no substitute test.

What are your GMAT score requirements?

Answer

Our GMAT score minimum is 570 total and 4.0 on the Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA). You must also have a minimum score in the 46th percentile in both the Verbal and Quantitative sections.

Answer

The average GMAT score for students admitted in 2005 was 658.

I wrote the GMAT test but unfortunately, I did not achieve all of your listed GMAT score requirements.  Do I need to write the GMAT again?

Answer

Yes, you must achieve all minimum GMAT score requirements in order to be considered for admission to the Program.

 

Question

My GMAT Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) score does not meet your 4.0 AWA minimum requirement but my TOEFL Test of Written English (TWE) score meets your 5.0 minimum TWE requirement.  Can my TWE score take the place of my AWA score?

Answer

No, each test score is reviewed independently of the other. You must meet our minimum requirements on both test scores.

When reviewing an application do you use an applicant's highest GMAT score, the most recent GMAT score, or do you average all of an applicant's GMAT scores?

Answer

We always use an applicant's highest GMAT score as the basis for our decision when we review an application.

Is there a limit to the number of times an applicant can write and submit the GMAT test scores?

Answer

No, an applicant can write and submit their GMAT scores as many times as they want. We will always use the best score in making our admission decision.

How long is the GMAT score valid?

Answer

The GMAT score expires 5 years after the date it was written.

 

Question

Do I have to write the GMAT again if my score is older than 5 years?

Answer

Yes, the Educational Testing Service will not send an official score report for a test that was written over 5 years ago.

 

Question

I have my application completed except for the GMAT score.  Should I send everything in advance and then have the GMAT score sent?

Answer

Yes, please send your application and all supporting documents.  The Educational Testing Service will send your official GMAT score report directly to the MMPA Program office when it is ready.

 

Question

Can I send you my test centre GMAT score report that I received immediately after writing the test?

Answer

Yes, you can send this score report as a preliminary reporting of your score. However, we will not make any decisions regarding your application until we receive the official score report from the Educational Testing Service.

 

Question

How long does it take for the MMPA Program office to receive my official GMAT score report after I write the test?

Answer

The official score report is normally received by our office within three weeks of it being written.

 

Question

I had my GMAT score report sent to another program at U of T.  Can you retrieve my score report from their office or should I have it sent again?

Answer

We can retrieve your score report from any U of T office.  Please indicate in your application where you sent your GMAT so that we know to request it from them.  You do not have to request another official copy of the score report.
